Happy Landing (Mr. Davis), a wurm favourite, failed to place in the Killare' Handicap, wasting too much energy up the back straight after having been caught napping at the start. Sydney Lad (Mr. Hearne) and Derby Day were always to the fore but Pumper- nickel came up well in the last fur- long and very nearly pulled off a sur- prise win from Sydney Lad. NORWAY REPLIES TO NAZIS
Oslo, To-day.
A Note to Berlin, in reply to Germany's protest over the Altmark incident, states that Norway is taking ener- getic measures in London to obtain satisfaction for the violation of her territorial waters.
In reply to Nazi protests that Nor- way should have protected the Alt- mark from the British, the Note says that the Norwegian ships were "pow- erless against the overwhelming Bri- tish force."

Authoritative Nazi sources say:— "All neutral nations are menaced a result of the British violation of Norway's territorial waters, and Eng- land will feel the most dire German retaliation."
