CONVERSION LOAN RESULT

London, To-day.

In the House of Commons, an- nouncing the results of the Con- version Loan, Sir John Bimon said that the applications for con. version amounted to £236,000,- 000 and for repayment to £99.- 000,000. Thus the total propor- tion to be converted exceeded two-thirds of the whole.

The Chancellor added that he regarded the results as satisfac- tory. Reuter.

BRAZEN NAZI TRICK FRUSTRATED

London, To-day. The Turkish Government is reported to have thwarted a brazen German attempt to steal a Turkish submarine, states "The Times" Balkan correspondent.

Last week-end, Turkish Marines occupied part of the shipyards in the Golden Horn, where Krupps were as- sembling two submarines for the Tur- kish Government. Both submarines have already been launched and would have been completed some time ago, but for the outbreak of war.

AFTER 28 HOURS IN AN open boat eleven of the crew of the British trawler Togimo, all suffering from exposure and three of them seriously wounded, were landed on the south-east coast of Eire yesterday.

The trawler was sunk by a U-boat which shelled

them, killing one of the crew.

Capt. James Gale, who won the D.S.O. in the last war, stated he was on watch on Sunday morning when a shot from the U-boat, 500 yards away, startled him.

The trawler extinguished all lights

Twenty more shots were fred, put- ting the engines and dynamo out of action and damaging the steering.

As the trawler began to sink orders were given to man the boat.

IRISHMAN KILLED

An Irishman named Price was com- ing up the ladder to the deck when a shell burst killed him and wounded his companion. Another of the crew was badly wounded and was carried to the lifeboat by his comrades. An- other shot then carried away the wheelhouse.

There was hardly room to move in the lifeboat and they had to bail con- stantly. All were exhausted from
