Nazi Threats To Neutral Ships Off Britain INTERNATIONAL RULES OF RIGHT

COPENHAGEN, TO-DAY. THE GOVERNMENT NEWSPAPER “SOZIAL-DEMO- KRATEN" REPLIES TO THE NAZI WARNING AGAINST NEUTRAL SHIPS VOYAGING OFF THE ENGLISH COAST S.

It particularly refers to allegations about neutral shipping appearing in the Nazi journal “Der Angriff,” and says: "What Denmark wishes is only to live in peace.

"What we ask for and even claim; Even ships in ballast are victims' and under signed treatles and acknow- the crews are not given a chance to ledged international rules of right is save themselves. only to be allowed to carry on econo- mically and politically to as great an extent as possible.

"When the Angriff frankly states that he who perishes while sailing near England must himself take the responsibility, that is a son- tence which is contrary to inter- national rights and International agreements.

"On account of this method of war Denmark has lost a number of ships, including some of her best vessels, with the loss of about 200 lives.

COLUMN IN BRITAIN

London, To-day.

In the House of Commons yesterday, the Foreign Secre- tary was asked whether steps could be taken by the police to prevent Fascist interrup- tions of speeches of Cabinet Ministers, as these disturb- ances were designed to help the enemy?

Sir John Anderson replied that however much one might deplore such interruptions, public meetings address- ed by Cabinet Ministers are in the same position as other public meet- ings, and that therefore no greater protection can be given to Cabinet Ministers than to other speakers. Reuter.

SIR ARCHIBALD SINCLAIR SAYS:

FIRST CONDITION

OF PEACE IS

VICTORY

London, To-day.

SIR ARCHIBALD SINCLAIR, leader of the Liberals in Parliament, discussed the question of peace in an ad- dress on his installation yesterday as Lord Rector of Glasgow University.

Sir Archibald said an indispensable condition for ob-

taining an adequate peace was victory.

The Nazi system was a cancer in the body of Europe, devouring all healthy tissues of civilisation.

He referred to the concentration camps as "those loathsome festering sores," and continued:

"In fighting Hitler's foul con. spiracy against the principles of the decencies of Western civilisa- tion none can doubt the justice of our dzube."

HESS'S STAR RISING

There are indications that Rudolf Hess, Hitler's deputy, is being "built up" to occupy a more prominent place

in public life. He received recently

a party of political organisers from Poland, and at the end of the inter- view Hess handed each of them a por- trait of himself.

-It was a gigantic and hazardous en-. terprise to which we were committed, This characteristically Hitlerian which called for the greatest effort gesture is one which the Fuehrer very the whole nation and every individual soldom permits one of his Ministers man and woman could exert-Reuter, to make.
