GERMANS ASK EXTRA RATIONS
Bro
Food offices in German towns are besieged by people claiming addi- tional rations on the ground that they heavy workers, "extra-heavy" workers or night workers. Others plead that they work exceptionally long hours, or have to travel a great distance to their work.
The numerous categories cause much confusion. The Berlin food office alone is dealing daily with the cases of thou- sands of workers who think they have been wrongly classified. Many cases of "wangling" are also reported, and more stringent regulations have been introduced to cope with them.
For example, a person who lives so far from his work that he is away from home for some than 11 hours is entitled to extra rations. It was found, reports Goebbels's newspaper, the “Angriff," that to claim these some people were walking to and from their work in- stead of travelling by train or tram.
