HE
ERE'S one golf feature one can practice no matter what the
- weather. That is the GRIP as exemplified by Bobby Jones. While this phase of golf has been stress - .ed a great deal, little is done about it during the winter when it would seem the time is most propitious for improvement, I .don't mean the carrying of a rub-- ber ball about and consequently squeezing it so many times per minute but rather an analytical approach to a grip so that you re- alize just why you take hold of the shaft in the manner you do. Furthermore, once this mystery has been cleared up, a regime of practice in grasping the club that will make this part of the game second nature.
Bobby Jones, for instance at left first grasps the shaft with the left hand in the manner indicated. With two of the left knuckles showing, he is in the best position possible to gain speed, power and accuracy in the downsweep with this member. The right hand takes its position with the little
·finger overlapping the forefinger of the left. Of importance here is the palm, which should take a .position on the leather, so that
if opened it would point toward : the hole. The overlapping grip is the most popular of all among the first flight golfers.

The Hong Kong Derby being the most important event, I will commence my notes with a tentative discussion of the prospects of the various stables which have entered ponies Blue Riband.

Palber and Gretber are the best, and elther one of them will re- present this stable in the Derby; un- less Charlesber responds more quickly to training.
KONG BROS. STABLE
Kong Bros. have two griffins, Gay Star and Hopeful Star. I rather like Gay Star, although I am of the opinion that it is not sufficiently advanced to provide any serious challenge in the Derby.
EVE STABLE
EU TONG BEN STABLE This stable hud the good last year to race Rose Elect, which virtually walked away with the Derby. This year they have entered Bronze Arrow and Care Free, the latter of which appears to me to be the better. The Eve stable, owned by the Sas- fortunesoons, have entered three ponics in Eve of Destruction, Eve of Folly and Eve of Peace, I am afraid I cannot seriously recommend any of them. They may win races later on, but it is doubtful whether they will do so at the Annual Meeting.

The best is Leading Time, but it seems to be more of a sprinter, and I don't think it will last the Derby distance.
I am afraid Mr. Eu will not have the satisfaction of scoring another win this year.
Bronze Arrow is more suitable for sprint events, but this pony went lame after finishing its gallop last Sunday. CIRE STABLE
MR. T. K. LI'S STABLE Mr. T. K. Li has Ohio and O-Lan to represent him, the latter being the better of the two, and it may have a say in the result of the Derby.

Eventually Middlesex Regiment came to the rescue by loaning their ground at Prince Edward Road on the occasions they were not using it, and as the Regiment is now at Camp the ground has been very kindly lent to Royal Signals for allocation to the other Small Units Interested in Rugby. Thanks are due to the officer in charge ground for making this possible.

MARBER STABLE
Mr. B. W. Bradbury, popular owner of this stable, has entered about the biggest string of ponies, no less than seven in all, which he has named as follows: Charlesber, Clember, Gret- and ber, Johnber, Lauraber,. Palber Royber.
The best is undoubtedly Royber, but this pony developed lameness last Friday when about to finish a gallop, and as a result it is doubtful whether it will race at the Annual Meeting. However, he still has Clember to depend on, but I am afraid this pony is more of a sprinter,

Look out for this Bay stallion is all that's can say for the present.
Mr. Tang Man-wa, the jockey, has a good looking pony in Possible. It will probably win a minor race, but I don't think it is properly equipped for the gruelling Derby.
White Diamond from the Diamonds Stable is also quite good, but I don't think much reliance should be placed on it to win long distance events.

At this stage, I can safely say that the best among this year's griffins are the following, and one of them will be the ultimate winner of the Derby:
Satinlight.

Burford. Palber.
