NAZI SPY RING IN SOUTHERN AFRICA

London, To-day. REPORTS RECEIVED IN London by members of the House of Commons in regard to the war efforts of the Domin- ions have caused intense satisfaction, says Reuter's lobby correspondent.

South Africa's readiness to assist African colonies in dan- ger of aggression and the rapid development of the land forces in South Africa are noted, also that South Africa planes have greatly assisted the Navy in operating in that part of the world.

THE RANT OF A MAN UNBALANCED

London, To-day.

"This speech is as worth- less as all the others. It does not matter. If the Germans are content with these out- pourings they are indeed a patient and credulous peo- ple," says the "Daily Mail, commenting on Hitler's latest outburst.

says:

The "Yorkshire Post" "Hitler's speech was the rant of a man unbalanced. This morning we see the old hypocrisy trying the dis- credited old tricks. Once more this destroyer of liberty, this torturer of innumerable victims, assumes the airs of the wronged innocent. He wants us to believe that he would have done no harm to anyone if he had not been provoked by British and French hatred. His latest speech, a piece of unrestricted warfare upon the truth, will strengthen our re- solve."

FRENCH COMMENT

ww

A message from Paris says that an uninterrupted explosion of vulgar in- sults, directed more especially against Britain and her statesmen, is how the "Petit

the Parisien" describes speech.

"Excelsior” says that Hitler would not hesitate on any kind of massacre but he forgets that, on their side, the Allies are not sleeping either."

PIGEON SERVICE

All racing pigeons in South Africa have been counted and listed, and of- ficials of all homing pigeon societies

have been asked to supply a list of members and state the number birds cach one owns.

This is part of the authorities' in- vestigation into reports that pigeons are used by Nazi agents to carry In- formation out of the country.

NAZI SPY RING

of

Reports suggested the existence a Nazi spy ring in Portuguese East Africa, which is engaged in obtaining information from the Union.

Watch is also kept on the importa- tion of birds, and recently the police confiscated a crate of homers consign- ed to a religious Order.

A vigilant eye is kept on persons in the Union suspected of being Nazi agents.-Reuter.

U.S. NAVAL BUILDING PROGRAMME CUT

Washington, To-day. The House of Representatives naval committee has tentatively approved a three-year building programme cost- ing approximately $655,000,000.
