A British Embassy communi- que has announced the establish- ment of a British recruiting of- fice in Paris for British subjects resident in France between the ages of 20 and 50, who desire to the volunteer for service with British Army, who are asked to communicate with the recruiting office.

The announcement adds that recruiting centres will be esta- blished throughout France. Reuter.

Belgrade, To-day. BALKAN STATES ARE trading warily in the deli- cate situation arising from the intense rivalry diplomatically between Germany and the Allies. The policy of Yugo-slavia, however, is expected to play an important part in the forthcoming con ference of the Balkan Entente-Rumania, Greece, Yugoslavia and Turkey-and the gen- eral aim is likely to be to discover a satisfactory modus vivendi.

Russia, for this reason, consider that a Balkan bloc would be directed against them. Consequently, Yugoslavia will con- centrate during the conference on an obstacles to attempt to remove the Balkan co-operation by finding a modus vivendi with Hungary, at the same time defining Yugoslavia's posf- tion as one of co-operation with strictest Turkey, together with the neutrality in the European conflict.— Havas.

There are hints that Hungary and Bulgaria, neither of which are mem- bers of the Balkan Entente, may co- operate to a certain extent in the Belgrade conference.

Budapest and Sofa are not send- ing special representatives, but it is very probable that they will instruct their Ministers to Belgrade to keep in the closest touch with the conferees. ---Havas.
