NAZI RAID ON SHETLANDS AIMED AGAINST SHIPPING

London, To-day. YESTERDAY'S RESUMPTION of Nazi bombing raids on the Shetlands seemed to have been directed primarily against shipping.
Bombs dropped closed to a steamer and a trawler without doing any damage, and two other bombs alighted in a nearby peatfield.
British fighting planes which drove them off played hide and seek in heavy cloud formations in a pursuit lasting more than an hour without getting into contact.-Havas.

London, To-day. Three planes, believed to be Ger- man, flew high over the Shetlands yes- terday, and the air raid warning last- ed half an hour,
British fighters ascended but failed to make contact.
An eye-witness stated that the planes dodged behind the clouds.

One of them dived towards the har- bour but did not attack it, though a steamer was moored at the quay.
It is learned that six bombs were dropped, four of which fell in a sparse- ly populated district where there are no military objectives.
No damage is reported.-Reuter.

They are all fine seamen and many of them were trained in the
hard school of the North-West Fisheries.
The Marine Superintendant for the Newfoundland Railways, who travell- ed out with them, said that they were the keenest crowd of young men he had ever seen.
They are now proceeding to various ports in the British Isles for training. --Reuter.
