Washington, To-day. The condition of Senator William Borah, leader of the isolationist section, is ex- tremely grave and his physi-,| cians state that only a miracle can save him.
From all parts of the United States messages of sympathy are pouring into his home.
Senator Borah is suffering from cerebral haemorrhage following a fall, -Havas.

The Norwegian steamer Enid, of 1,100 tons, has been sunk

north-east coast of Scotland by the U-boat, which both torpedoed and shelled her. Eight of her crew have reached an island off Scotland in a small boat, while the other eight were rescued by a British traw- ler.
Another Norwegian ship was tor- pedoed in the Bay of Biscay by a U- boat and her crew of 14 are believed lost. A violent explosion broke her into two, and she sank within a cou- ple of minutes, not even having time to wireless an "SOS."-Reuter.
***The Cairnross, which was built at Sunderland in 1921, was owned by the Cairn Line of Steamships, Limited (Cairns, Noble and Co., managers). A vessel of 5,494 tons gross, she was 425 feet long, and registered at Newcastle. refrigerating machinery, Fitted with her single-screw was driven by three Parsons steam turbine engines.
The Enid, of 1,140 tons gross, was bullt at Moss in 1924. Registered at Newcastle, she was owned by A/S Turid (Bachke and Co., managers) and was 226 feet long.

The first attempt to escape the new Chinese Soldiers Internment Camp in Argyle Street, was made by one of the inmates at 3 a.m. to-day.
The man was, however, arrested out-
side the Camp after a chase by two Indian guards. He was afterwards ad- mitted to the Kowloon Hospital for treatment of injuries suffered when he scaled the barbed-wire fence.
The escape was made on the south side of the camp but the man was seen by Indian guards to fall from the top
of the barbed-wire fence.
They fired warning shots and the man was caught about 40 yards from the Camp.
