FINNS FACE NEW ONSLAUGHT ON SALLA FRONT

FIGHTING IN THE WORST COLD Finland has ex- perienced for 35 years, the Finnish army is now facing a new Russian onslaught on the Salla front.
The Russians have launched three new attacks in their drive westwards towards the Gulf of Both- nia, and a big battle is still raging.
ECONOMIC PACT WITH TURKEY
London, To-day. Details of the recently signed Anglo-Franco-Turko agreement have now been re- leased.
Britain and France are to give Tur- key loans of £43,500,000 of which £25,000,000 will be used to purchase arms from Britain and France. A sum of £15,000,000 will be in gold.
Britain and France have undertaken to purchase annually from Turkey dried fruits to the value of £2,000,000 for the duration of the war.-Reuter.

Meanwhile the Finnish tactics, apart from trench warfare on the Karelian Isthmus, are directed at destroying the enemy's morale by harassing operations by patrols, which unex- pectedly attack the rear and flanks, making the Russians contantly fear being cut off from their supplies, starved and frozen.

They comprise 5 officers and 34 ratings on the Seahorse; 4 officers and 26 ratings on the Undine; and 5 officers and 35 men on the Starfish.
The German radio has already an- nounced that some of those in the Undine and Starfish have been re- scued, but it is not yet known how many-Reuter.
