TULSA SHOW THEIR PACES

GOOD VICTORY OVER CHINESE

(By “GRANDSTAND")

IN THE Charity game the mighty Tees, unofficial champs, from U.S.S. Tulsa proved their real mettle to top the combined Chinese squad 14-5. The game was sponsor- ed by the Chinese Youths' Medical Association.

After Madame Sun Fo was intro-Tulsamen. Rabacchi caught Choys's liner ,duced to members of both teams and and tossed a perfect peg to Peterson to nail

The Chinese, who batted first, start- .ed off with a bang in the initial frame and it appeared as if they would bunt their way to victory at the expense of - the Tulsamen. Tuffy Chinn, Earl Wong and Wally Ching crossed the plate on three perfect bunts and a wild throw by third sacker Jack Hoff- man,

The American bluejackets, how- ever, in their turn to bat, counted for five markers on four hits, including Jack Hoffman's round-tripper with Harry Baker and Eddie Due on board. Tulsa pushed across four more tall-

ies in the second inning on four more blows and three costly Chinese bob-

bles, to put the game on ice. Eddie Due slapped a four-base hit in this

frame to bring in Baker ahead of

RECREIO DIG IN; ANOTHER GOOD WIN

(By “GRANDSTAND”)

RECREIO ACES tightened their grip on the top rung of the League ladder on Sunday by giving the Canadian Chinese squad a 13-3 trouncing.

The "Canucks" did not look anywheres like a First Division team against last year's champs. Much more was expected of them but for some reason they did not deliver the goods.

Whiffing only two and walking four, Herbie Quan, king of the whiff, blew up on the slab at the outset and never regained his usual touch and was yanked in favour of Bill Woo in the sixth.

Herbie's deliveries were lapped up by the included a Ruthfan clout by Gerry Gosano, Recreio heavy sluggers for 12 hits which

a triple and a double by Eddie Gozano, a two-bagger by Zinho Gosano and a two-ply clout by Spotty Pereira. Besides pitching mediocre ball Herbie booted twice for the only miscues chalked up against his team.

Recreio's tight fielding-only one error by Beltrao-alded Johnny Alvares to turn out a three-run-three-hlt performance. He struck out two and walked four,

Canadian Chinese, three lone talles were all scored in the third stanza when Alvares had - difficulty finding the plate. Bill ·· Ing walked; Herbie Quon grounded to the pit- cher for the first out; G. G. Lee followed to be disposed of in like manner for the second erasure; Johnny Delgado received а free ticket to the initial station followed by George White, who was given a life for the third Annie Oakley of the frame to load the cushions. L. Bunn rapped a timely bin

gle to left centre to bring in three counts, but was nailed at third base in trying to pilfer to end the C.C.C. scoring for the day.

WAHOOS' REVENGE

(By "GRANDSTAND”)

Only three tilts were play-

ed in the girls' section of the League on Sunday to start the second round of the cam- paign.

The Wahoo softball squad avenged their defeat, in the first round, in the hands of Wildcats when they defeated the defending champions to the sweet tune of 10-3 in the first of a double header on Prince Edward Road ground.

Wahoos played better ball all round, out- hitting the tames felines 8-5 and outplay- ing them on the field, having only three errors chalked up against them to Wildcata' 10.

Chief Wahoo Therese Noronha fanned three and issued two free passes to first, while Lily "Sunshine" Mar struck out six and walked three,

Therese 'Noronha's three-bagger was the longest hit of the fray.

Gloria Mar was again outstanding with the willow wand with two bingles in thres trips to the plate, but her good performance was marred by three oostly fielding errors, Shortstop Irene Costilho's fielding was something to write home about, particularly when she ran almost to centre feld to gather

the pellet off Gloria Mar's bai. R. H. E Wahoos
