It was only possible to play one serious trial, the Initial effort being abandoned at half time, and in the second trial so many changes were made at half time that three turned out to be it actually halves'.
It was obvious that the great ma- jority of the players who turned out have little hope of getting into the Army side but several players who have not hitherto been considered did quite well enough to merit at least a further trial.
The man of the afternoon was un- 'doubtedly Guy, the Artillery centre half. Playing in the
same game as Bright of Middlesex, he stood out alone

already been commented upon in these columns but Taylor is a newcomer. He did well enough in this game to show that even if he does not get a reserve in regular place in the Army side he will be a valuable asset as a case of injury to the first string backs. Who they will be of course is not yet decided. Spinks, also, of the Signals, on view and, despite several weeks' lay-off, showed good form. Sure kicking coupled with a nice turn of speed are his greatest assets.

There were many notable absentees from the trials including Saw, Shee- han, Lawton and Duffield. Saw I be- lieve is nursing an injured toe whilst Lawton and Sheehan are also on the injured list.
