It is authoritatively learned that the first detachment of the Polish air force, which is already in training in England, will form the first of several squadrons that will become part of the R.A.F.

London, To-day. The Admiralty an- nounces that the same submarine which sight- ed the Bremen has sunk a U-boat and torpedoed a German cruiser in the North Sea.

The Admiralty also states that the British steamer Deptford was torpedoed by a U-boat in Norwegian territorial waters.

It was the third case in a few days of the viola- tion of Norwegian neu- trality by Germany. Reuter.

Both Ajax and Achilles are ships of about 7,000 tons, armed with eight six-inch guns. Their speed of over 32 knots is infinitely faster than the Ad- miral Scheer which is limited to about 27 knots. The Admiral Scheer, how- ever, carries 11-inch guns. She is chal- lengable by lighter ships because she is only lightly-armoured.

TANKER TORPEDOED WITHOUT WARNING

London, To-day. The crew of a British tanker torpe- doed in the Atlantic arrived yesterday at a South Coast port.

It is reported that the Admiral Scheer has put in to Montevideo in a badly damaged condi- tion.

Thirty of the crew were killed and 60 wounded in the action. - Reuter.

*** This, presumably, means the end of the Ad- miral Scheer's career, as, under international law, she is not allowed to stay in a neutral port longer than 24 hours, and Ajax and Achilles, it is pre- sumed, are keeping pa- trol outside the harbour.
