R.A.F. PLANE SINKS ANOTHER U-BOAT WITH BOMBS

YESTERDAY MORNING, announces the R.A.F., an aircraft of the Coastal Command, while on pa- trol duty, sighted a U-boat on the surface. The British plane immediately attacked the sub-
marine and bombs were dropped.
The first bomb struck the U-boat amidships, and about a yard to starboard of the conning-tower.

Mr. Cordell Hull told a press conference yesterday that the State Department was investigat- ing reports that the Mexican Gov- ernment had expropriated the Mellon oil properties, near Tam- píco, belonging to the Mexican Gulf Oil Corporation.-Reuter.
Chungking, To-day. Chinese victories have been re- ported from the Kwangtung- Fukien border regions. Both Chaochow and Shaoan have been recaptured.
Chinese troops launched a deter- mined attack on Chaochow engag- ing Japanese troops in the out- skirts. The Japanese fell back into the city. The Chinese smash- ed in, forcing the enemy to flee in confusion by the east and west city gates.
Reports from Foochow state that a strong Chinese force com- menced on Wednesday night а fierce assault on Shaoan, the south Fukien border, which was taken by the Japanese on December 1. A night-long battle ensued. The Japanese suffered heavily and withdrew the following morning.
