Recreio "B" Shake Seniors In Mixed Badminton Clash Carvalho & Miss Remedios Make Great Effort
REMEDIOS AND MISS OLGA RIBEIRO GIVE BRILLIANT DISPLAY
(By "ADREM”)
RECREIO "A" MIXED Doubles Badminton League team, consistent leaders in this division since its inception, were shaken out of their complacence at King's Park last night when they commenced the last round at the wrong end of a 4-2 score in their match against their “B” team.
"B" then appeared to think they had done enough for the evening and could not collect the single game which would have given them credit for one of the biggest upsets for some time!
L. A. Carvalho, that veteran of many a stern League tussle, and Miss S. Re- medios, of the "B" team were chiefly responsible for the near upset and had C. C. Pereira not struck last night to be right off his game, the result might very well have been reversed.
game had his opponents bewildered and they were never sure whether they were coming or going!
His combination with Miss Olga Ribeiro was a splendid one and 1 cannot see many League pairings taking games from this couple on the form shown by them last night. Marcus Oliveira played his usual game in which the smash was a pro- minent feature but Miss Mylthie Silva was not at her best.
Carvalho was in great form. It will be recalled that he was for many years a member of the senior mixed doubles team and he had evidently made up his mind to show his former
A. M. Rodrigues and Miss M. Ri- contemporaries that there was a lot of kick still left in him. His coverage beiro had an off day and could never of court had to be seen to be believed | work up any semblance of a combin- and his smashing was very decisive.

nervousness, gave him fine support.
Miss Cynthia Silva, long lay-off from the game notwithstanding, re- vealed much of her old skill and would have done even better if given more support by her partner,
Of the "A" team, J. J. Remedios was the "man of the match." Never has this rotund player given a better performance. His brilliant all-court

HOCKEY
TO-DAY'S "NEEDLE" MATCH
All interest in Ladies hockey this afternoon will be centred on the match between "Y" Ladies, champions of the Caer Clark Competition and St. Andrew's..
The champions have played three League games to date and have won each comfortably, scoring 15 goals against 2, but their forwards will not have the same scope this afternoon as the Saints can boast of a particu- larly stout defence.
The Saints have only been seen in the League this season but have im- pressed greatly in all practice games; they should fully extend the champions if they do not win.
ST. ANDREW'S-Miss June Hall; Miss G. White and Miss M. da Roza; Miss S. West, F. Wong, Miss M. Churn, Miss S. Roberts, Miss J. Wong and Miss B. Greaves; Miss Miss H. Refa and Miss B. Longbottom.
"Y" LADIES Miss Minoot; Mrs. Stone and Mrs. N. Strange; Miss M. McCaw, Mrs. Burnett, Miss B. Harker, Starbuck and Miss K. Pocock; Mrs, O. Miss Decima Eardley, Mrs. S. Gardner and Miss D.

TWO GOOD SENIOR GAMES FOR TO-DAY
(By "ADREM")
Two good senior cricket games are on the card for this afternoon, Craigengower entertaining Civil Service and Club, Recreio.
Recreio have out just about their strongest team including E. L. Gosano, H. L. Ozorio and A. P. Pereira and with these three to look after the at- tack Club should not find run-getting too easy.
7
Club, who have do without their Civil Service members for the first time in three weeks, have many strange names in their team. They appear to have out the nucleus of their potential League team which just about places them at full strength.
I notice that R. D. Gillespie is playing. If he manages to settle down I can foresee some leather- hunting for the Recreio team. He is one of the hardest hitters ever to have played for Club.
GREAT IMPROVEMENT
Two teams which have shown great improvement this season will meet at the Valley. They are Craigengower Cricket Club and Civil Service,
