GREAT BRITAIN TO SUPPLY PLANES TO FINLAND
London, To-day. :
GREAT BRITAIN, ITALY and the United States are either assisting Finland with war materials, or making arrangements to do so.
It is officially announced in London that British firms are to supply considerable amounts of war supplies, including automatic arms, Bren guns, and about 20 fighting planes.
The Government will not make use of its priority rights to prevent im- mediate delivery.
Italy has already sent about fifty planes to Helsinki.
President Roosevelt has been in consultation with Mr. Norman Davis and Mr. Jesse Jones as to the methode by which the United States can lend assistance, finan- cial and so on, to Finland with diplomatic immunity and domestic approbation.
Some speculation is voiced in Lon- don as to how long Germany will

PROBLEM OF AID TO FINLAND
(SPECIAL TO "CHINA MAIL")
London, To-day. The Finnish. question
remains the main
pre- occupation of diplomatic. and parliamentary circles in London.
It is believed here. that Finland's resistance will become still more stern as the bitter cold sets on, and renders Soviet attacks more difficult.
The defence is also made easier by the financial and economic help Finland is receiving, and continuing to receive, from many countries.
CHIEF PROBLEM Political circles consider that the chief problem is to help Finland by all legal means while keeping an eye on the Balkans, where the Soviet threat ever looms larger.
The National Council of Labour is examining the Finnish problem and will probably issue a public condem- General Ho, it is understood, origin-nation of the Soviet attitude.-Havas. ally planned to leave on September

It is announced that upon arrival in Moscow General Ho Yao-tsu will call on Soviet leaders. Reuter,

London, To-day. Well-informed quarters assert that British firms have sold a number of planes to Finland.
This action is consonant with in- ternational law and with the prece- dent set by other neutral countries in the Finn-Russian conflict.
Fifty or sixty Italian planes were landed at Helsinki yesterday, raising the most important question of whe- ther they flew non-stop from Italy or refuelled in Germany.-Havas.
