GERMAN AIR CIRCUS OUT AGAIN -- 2 ARE HIT

The famous Richthofen air squa- | dron that Goering led for a time in the last war is in action again.

German When two

fighters were shot down recently near the Maginot Line, it was discovered that they bore, besides the usual German identity marks, the red-and-white check pat- tern which Richthofen made famous.

Their "tails up" because of the air victories at home which cost the Nazis eight planes over the week-end, Ro- yal Air Force dawn patrols went over the Western Front looking for fresh triumphs.

British fighting planes from one of the advance aerodromes behind the Maginot Line penetrated far over the Siegfried Line and returned to report all quiet.

News of the disastrous fallure of the latest German attacks at home wireless at all was heard over the R.A.F. points and caused great jubila- tion.

Toasts were drunk in champagne by the pilots to celebrate their .com- rades' victories.

"ENGLISH FLY LIKE BIRDS"

Flying in perfect formation as if at the 'Hendon Air Pageant, a patrol of British fighter planes returned to its base within a few miles of the boom- ing guns on the Western Front.

As they flew low over the aerodrome they dipped in salute.

The wings of one of the planes was riddled with bullet holes. Its pilot's face as he clambered from the ma- But all chine was purple with cold. the flight was safely home and every one rejoiced.

High over the planes had been anti-aircraft fire.

"It is formidable," they cried again.

If German scouting planes nose their way over the Maginot Line, it is their duty to soar into the sky and tackle the enemy before he has penetrated into French territory to make his re- connaissance.

If bombers come these are the boys who must intercept them and beat them back before real damage can be done.

Night and day there is a ceaseless watch.

FOREIGN SEAMEN IN BRITISH SHIPS

to in

In these days of dangerous sea voy- ages, it is interesting to note that the

has agreed British Government place all foreign seamen serving British ships on exactly the same plane as British seamen.

The point was raised in connection with ve tankers sailing from Mexico for Great Britain, which carried Chin- ese crews.

Apparently the crews declined to sail unless they had specific guaran- tees both with regard to wages and with regard to the treatment of their dependents if they themselves, were killed.

The Chinese Embassy in London took the matter up and were inform- ed by the Foreign Office that exactly the same terms would be applied to all seamen, whether foreign or British, serving on British ships in the war.

This may interest some of the Chin- ese crews serving on ships sailing be- tween Britain and the Far East, more especially the Blue Funnel boats.
