Some 10 Japanese warships peared off Pakhol yesterday and started shelling the city, many of the shells falling in the outskirts.

A gallant fight was put up by the Chinese at Lungmun, where the Ja- panese have been unable to penetrate further inland following their land- ing on Wednesday afternoon.

Several sharp hand-to-hand clasher were reported last night at Lungmun and it is claimed in Chinese des- patches that the Japanese were several times driven back with heavy casualties.

Yesterday the Japanese landed on Sha-tun Island, near Lungmun, but this Island is reported to be of no military importance.
