Germany is trying to divert all neu- tral trade to or from the Scandinavian states to the Kiel Canal under the con- trol of the German navy. The German authorities are also inviting all neu- tral merchant vessels to take in fresh

supplies of coal from German ports.

Germany is making special efforts to persuade the neutrals to cease their trade with Great Britain.

The "Berliner Boersen Zeitung" published a special number a few days ago in which it attempted to prove that Germany can absorb the entire production of the Scandinavian states and is also able to supply these coun- tries, in exchange, with everything they need. It is held as significant that the article does not mention Finland as one of the Scandinavian states.-- Havas.

FOUR U.S. DESTROYERS LAUNCHED

Boston, Mass., Oct. 21. Four new destroyers were launch- ed simultaneously to-day at the Charlestorm naval .dockyards. Each will displace 1,500 tons.Havas.
