OFFICIAL STATEMENT
London, To-day. The report from Berlin that Italy is not taking the peace Initiative is confirmed from Rome
In an official Italian agency statement.
The statement says: "Several British newspapers have reported that Il Duce is considering a peace conference plan. This news has no foundation.
"In the present state of affairs Italy will not take an initiative of such a nature."

This is especially significant since Mr. Chamberlain stated on Tuesday that he would examine the text of any proposals in the light of conditions he had previously laid down.
