BERLIN OR BUST, SAYS TOMMY

London, To-day. "UNRUFFLED BY POLITICAL events in eastern Europe, the British army in France is pressing on with the job of improving its readiness for ac- tion with every day that passes," telegraphs "Eye-Witness,” the official observer of the war, from somewhere in France.

"Tommy shows his opinion of any Hitler-Stalin peace proposals by the inscription which now seems to be chalked on every other lorry- 'Berlin or bust.'

"Behind a curtain of secrecy, work goes steadily forward.

"The weather is still, sunny, with almost cloudless days, but the morn- ings and evenings are chilly.

"Mountaine of freshly arrived material appear on the quayaldes and are spirited away again with almost magical rapidity.

"Tin-hatted British sentries march smartly up and down the long quays, barring approach to overcurious bystanders.

"The normal French notice-boarda all up and down buildings have been crossed out in chalk and translated into English."—Reuter,
