FREEDOM FOR THE CZECHS PROMISED

London, To-day.

"We are calling from London to Prague and Bratislava," begins a declaration of the Labour Party to the Czechoslovak nation, appealing to them not to desert the flag taken over in Britain by Dr. Benes and his collaborators.

"The hour of your liberation is near. Your tragedy opened the eyes of the world.

"The British Labour Party declares that the Czechs and Slovaks, now under the iron heel of Hitler, shall soon again be free." Reuter.

POLISH SUICIDE GARRISON STILL HOLDING OUT IN

LONDON, TO-DAY.

THE SMALL POLISH “SUICIDE GARRISON" IN WESTERPLATTE IS STILL HOLDING OUT AGAINST VASTLY SUPERIOR NAZI FORCES. They have been repeatedly bombarded by Nazi guns

and planes.

Polish troops from Gydnia, who created a diversion, claim to have taken in the city 12 prisoners, a field-gun and three machine-guns.

The Warsaw radio is now an. nouncing the name of German officers and soldiers taken pri- soner by the Polish forces, with a word of comfort to their familles In Germany.

A German communique, meanwhile, claims that the Nazi forces have oc- cupied the whole of Upper Silesia, and to have taken 10,000 prisoners in the Polish Corridor.-Reuter.

VISIT IN PARIS AREA

Paris, To-day.

The planes which caused the air raid alarm to be sounded here at 1.30 am. yesterday proved to be Nazi reconnaissance machines.

There was little French anti-air- craft ~fire, and at 4.15 nm. the all clear was sounded.

No bombs were dropped on the capital, though the sound of firing and planes was heard in the dis- tance.

At 10.47 yesterday morning... an- other alarm was sounded, but the all clear went at 11:20a.m. without hostile raiders appearing.-Reuter.

LATVIAN STEAMER SUNK

Copenhagen, To-day.

A Latvian steamer has been sunk near Malmo, Sweden. -

Of the 20 men on board, 2 were drowned.
