WRONGFUL PRACTICE
IN MEDICINE
Before Mr. R. A. .D. Forrest, this morning, Lei Sik-pang, alias S. P. Nye, was summoned for unlawfully practising medicine.
Inspector L. R. Whant, prosecuting, said that on July 17, while enquiring into different cases, the police found some Western medicine in the name of Dr. S. P. Nye. On August 14, a Chinese detective went to No. 167 Wanchai Road, where he was medical- ly examined by defendant. A prescrip- tion was given and fee of $1 charged.
At about 3.15 p.m. the same day, witness together with Dr. Valentine, visited the premises, and found me- dicine in the house,
The Police, said Inspector Whầnt, were not taking a serious view of the case, because defendant had prac- tised in Canton for quite a long time.
40 YEARS IN PRACTICE
Mr. C. Y. Kwan, pleaded guilty on behalf of the defendant and said that Dr. Nye was an undergraduate of 3 well-known medical college in Canton, and had been practising in Canton for the past 40 years, His client was a refugee and did not actually prac- tise. There was no sign-board put up outside his residence.
Being a doctor, his client could not refuse to attend patients who visit him.
Defendant was fined $10.
SOUGHT FIGHT TO SETTLE DEBT

"I have no money, we had fight for it," said Hung Kwong, 40, when asked by Pun Fai, 49, to re- pay an outstanding loan.
Hung thereupon struck Pun on the face with his fist. Another man join- ed in on Hung's side and was alleg- ed by Pun to have used a hard in- strument, causing an injury which required hospital treatment for two days.
Pun was discharged from hospital this morning, and Hung was charged before Mr. E. Himsworth.
According to Sergeant Hewitt, Pun lent $45 to Hung in December last to enable him to pay his rent. Hung re- paid $36 and $9 was outstanding when they met in Canton Road.
Mr. Himsworth placed Hung on A $10 bond to keep the peace for one year and ordered him to pay $1.50 to Pun as compensation.
UNION JACK IN ANTARCTIC
'Plans for a British expedition to the Antarctic are nearly complete.
They have been drawn up by Dr. Colin Bertram and are to be laid be- fore the Royal Geographical Society. "They envisage an expedition to the "Falkland Islands Dependency, claim-
ed by Britain.
As with all such schemes, the stumbling block is the difficulty of raising the money.
The American' expedition is due to
· leave in October. Even in the most auspicious circumstances the R.G.S. «expedition could not leave this year.

MILITARY PRECAUTIONS DECIDED UPON IN PARIS
Paris, To-day.
PRESIDENT LEBRUN will have arrived back'in Paris from Lorraine to-day in order, it is said, to give final sanction to important military measures to be taken by the Council of Ministers to-morrow, Meanwhile, a large number of reservists are being called up, although it is maintained that these do not exceed normal measures requisite for as- suring the national security.
The "Parls Soir" says it is not con- templated to summon Parliament, a measure which would only occur if the situation becomes still more critical. For the time being, the only thing to do is to await velopments in Moscow,
