Hairdressers' associations where are eager to put over the new "up" styles, and so are trying to in- duce screen stars to wear them, be- lieving that the public will follow the fashions set by stara.

In the day of Mary Pickford and Mary Miles Minter, actresses' hair styles had no effect on their fans. No girl of 18 or over felt she could go about with her hair hanging down her back in curls, as those stars did. She would have looked ridiculous.
