BERLIN COMMENT ON INSPIRED REUTER STATEMENT

Berlin, To-day.

THE STATEMENT ISSUED by Reuter, to the effect that no«. thing was known in British official circles of a peace plan or conference proposals and that the rumours ori- ginated in Germany, as another move in the so-called war of nerves, has evoked a reply from the official Ger- man News Agency.

These British views, probably inspired by official quarters are, says the Agency, proof of the deceptive and hypo- critical way in which the western Democracies are deal- ing with the Danzig question.

The British news agency is here seeking in an all too transparent way to make out that Britain had nothing whatever to do with all the talk about a conference which has been going on during the last day or two. In- deed, it goes so far as to charge the Axis Powers with having started it.

The German news agency points out that the German newspapers have made it plain during the last few days that Germany would have no- thing whatsoever to do with confer- ences, compromise solutions, negotia- tions or concessions as it has no need to affirm its right to Danzig by en- tering into a political deal of any sort.
