A reign of terror existed in Lon- during don's Whitechapel district 1887-91. On Christmas, 1887, woman of the Tenderloin was brutal-- ly murdered and mutilated, and during 1888 seven more crimes of the same character added to the frenzy of un- derworld denizens.~ Again, in 1889, two more victims were found, and early in 1891 another.
