RISING TEMPO IN EUROPE
Warsaw, To-day. Much diplomatic activ- ity in the past few days. indicates the rising tem- perature of the Danzig situation.
Sir Howard Kennard, the British Ambassador, conferred for some time yesterday with Colonel Beck, who also had a talk with M. Noel, the French Ambassador.
The discussions followed the meet- ing of Colonel Beck and Mr. A. J. Drexel Biddle, the American Ambas- sador.
Information concerning the talks is not available, but it is presumed that the latest stage of the Danzig dispute was examined.
Frequent conversations of the same order are expected during the period of European tension now generally anticipated here. Colonel Beck also received the Pa-
pal Nuncio yesterday.
POLES ARRESTED Developments include the arrest of two Polish Customs officials, who were apprehended on a charge of con- niving at introducing anti-Nazi leaflets into Danzig.
The Polish High Commissioner in- tervened, but so far without result.
Two Germans were arrested on а train crossing the Polish frontier at Tczew in the Polish corridor; they will be charged with Insulting Polish cus- toms officials and the Pollsh nation. --Reuter.
TALK LEADS TO FRESH RUMOURS
London, To-day. M. Roger Cambon, the French Charge d'Affaires in London, was called to the Foreign Office late last night, where he had ́a conversation of over an hour's duration with Lord Halifax, the Foreign Se- cretary.
Although strict silence on the con- -tent of the conversation is maintain- ed by both sides, it is reliably learn- ed that the British Government last, night had received an important re- port with regard to the European sit- :uation.
In that connection, rumours of the forthcoming visit of Dr. Burckhardt, the League Commis-' sioner in Danzig, to London are current in political circles. Although official quarters deny any information concerning such a visit, political circles belleve that Dr. Buckhardt, after his visit to Berchtes- gaden, will communicate with the gov- ernments of the Western Powers and that in view of the importance pending problems he will take up that contact in person.-Traus-Ocean.
