The Anglo-Japanese nego- tiations are to-day practical- ly dormant.

London, To-day.

LORD HALIFAX, FOREIGN Secretary, who inter- rupted his vacation yesterday for the second time, may remain in London for another few days. Such a decision would occasion no sur- prise, as the report of Dr. Burckhardt, League Commissioner for Danzig, on his conversation with Hitler is expected.

This is according to the "Daily Telegraph," which adds that Dr. Burckhardt's report had not been received of the Foreign Office up to last night. If the report is received, it would, of course, be treated confidentially.

The paper bases its bellef that Dr. Burckhardt will inform the British Government on his talk with Hitler on the fact that Lord Halifax is chair- man of the League's "Committee of Three for Danzig."

As earlier reported, rumours of the forthcoming visit of Dr. Burckhardt to London. were current in London yesterday.

TO ACT AS MEDIATOR? The "Daily Mail", says this morning that such rumours were still circulat- ing in political circles.

Dr. Burckhardt, the "Daily Ex- press" says, will use his knowledge of the situation to act as mediator in Danzig and Warsaw.

These developments, which are described as "mysterious" by some

From a rollable foreign source the "China Mail" learned this afternoon that a large armed Ja- panese transport, of at least 8,000 tons, struck a Chinese mine off Wangmoon a few nights ago, and sank in a few moments.

Many Japanese are befloved to have lost their lives in the fierce current; no survivors have come ashore. At the moment, only the masts are showing above water, and any Japanese attempts at salvage will come under the con- centrated fire of Chinese defences at that point.
