Times have changed and it has come back into the elegant picture like a charm retrieved from the past. Modern trends have brought different ways of handling it and it will add a very expensive item in satin, velvet and lame to the dress budget.

This attractive outfit combines two trends-that of the ribboned accessory and of the vogue for tar- tan.

Bonnet and muff are made en- tirely of gaily-coloured tartan taffetą ribbon. The bonnet, perched well to the front of the head, ties in grandmother fashion with strings under the chin, ending in a bow to the left side of the face.

Many of the latest handbags are lined in tones of blue, from the atcely shades, bordering on to grey, to the softest mist, ice, and offlilac blues. This is to match the latest fittings, which are of cloudy blue glass with platinum tops and lids, in some cases set with moon stones.

One particularly lovely powder compact is of platinum, almost wafer thin, with tiny moonstones set round.a topaz. The effect is that of a pale blue daisy with a spark- ling yellow centre.

The latest silver christening sets are engraved with nursery rhymes. A full set consists of a mug, silver porridge plate, bowl, knife, fork, spoon and napkin ring. 'Smaller sets include porringer and spoon or a silver mug and plate.

Of plain, highly polished silver, there are no crevices or edges to hold dust or complicate cleaning. The rhymes are engraved in large, bold lottering. Words are engraved on the rim of each porridge plate with the picture in the centre. Little Jack Horner is a popular sub- ject for plates, his portrait being engraved in deep, clear lines. Little Mies Muffet and the spider adorn a fitted silver mug. These sets are into silk and velvet lined cases of

white, blue or apple green leather.
