* * UTSTANDING swimmers at the moment-rather I should say the senior swimmers-are the Misses Irene Lopes, Vivienne Churn and Doreen Weir.

Miss Lopes has a very nice style and is in the pink of condition. The pre- sent lady champion of the Club, she

is expected to experience considerable competition in the near future from Miss Churn and Miss Weir.

The former is now somewhat lack- ing in racing experience but when she has been taught how to swim her races and a little more about turning, she is going to take a lot of stopping. She is very young, and her speed should increase. with her physical development.

VERY disappointed young woman on-Saturday night was Miss Do-- reen Weir.· ́A ́ product of Tientsin, where they turn out some very good swimmers, Miss Weir has only just re- sumed training after rather a lengthy lay-off from the competitive aspect of

it.

Of course she was not in condition to seriously extend the Misses Lopes and Churn but she has taken her re- verses in the right spirit and assures me that she will be hard at it until the championship.

She certainly has the talent so don't be surprised at anything she does when the championship comes off" in "a" few weeks.

great deal of potential talent. liked the swimming of Miss Eileen It Grant, a fairly good all-rounder. will not be long before she is cham- nionship class.

In this category also come Miss Jac- queline Anderson, Miss Mary Lachlan, Miss Celeste Marques, Miss Aileen Thirwell, Miss Myra Noronha and Miss Yollé.

The obvious enthusiasm of this group of swimmers is refreshing. Their 3m- provement is only a matter of time. There need be no misgivings as to the future of this branch of Colony swim- ming. I would, however, feel that this, improvement would be more "ra- pid if there were more inter-club com- petition. I trust that ladies connect- ed with other clubs will get together and do something about it.
