MISSIONARIES FORCED OUT OF TAIYUANFU
ARRIVE IN PEIPING
Peiping, To-day.
Five members of the English Baptist Mission at Taiyuanfu, who left Shansi because of the anti-British movement in Taiyuan, have arrived here.
They confirmed earlier reports that truckloads of anti-British agents of the Japanese surround- ed the little Baptist Church in Taiyuan and ar- rested the entire congregation.
Those who have arrived in Pei- ping include Dr. Ellen Clow, Mrs. Jasper, Miss Pentelow and Miss Combs. (The name of the fifth is not given.)
They have reported that five other members of the Mission have actually stayed on in Taiyuan, hop- ing they will be safe, while four members of the same mission, at Hsinchow, forty miles north of Taiyuan, are safe and staying for the present.
on
They said that they were told by the Chinese Governor of Shansi Province that if they did not leave it might have unpleasant conse- quences for their converts.
The Japanese have issued a pass to them, valid for return in Septem- ber-Reuter.
