German industrial production touched a new high level during the first quarter of 1939, when it was 32.7 per cent. higher than that of the slump year 1928. This re- presented an improvement of 4.7 per cent. over the 1938. perform- ance. These figures have been achieved by calling upon practically all available reserves.
Despite this effort, however, the export figures for the "old Reich" were only £63,100,000 during the first quarter of 1939, compared with £66,950,000 during the same period of 1938.
