DEFINITELY A 'MUST' FILM

It is useless to try and look after the slum-children of the world by providing them with baş- ketball games and recreation. cen- tres if, at the same time, their en- vironment remains unchanged and they grow up to admire the hood- lum, the gangster and the crooked politician. That is the moral be- hind "Angels with Dirty Faces;" which opens at the King's Theatre to-morrow.

James Cagney and Pat O'Brien take the leading roles in this film, closely supported by Ann Sheridan (in a minor role) and the famous "Dead-End" Kids, who came into the lime-light overnight in their first vivid portrayal of a bunch of young hoodlums whose sole moral law would appear to be "Anything is right

if you can get away

with it!"

In this film, Cagney is Rocky Sullivan, a more or less big-time gangster, who becomes the idol of the Dead-End Kids. O'Brien is Father Connolly, who grew up with Cagney, even helped him to steal fountain

when they were pens kids, but joined the Church after a bus-ride.

Cagney enters the picture after a 15-years gaol term, to find Father Connolly engaged in a bitter struggle to get the boys of the neighbourhood out of the gutter and interested in something else' besides petty larceny and "acting tough." How this works out, and how it eventually leads Cagney to the "hot seat," is the theme of this picture. Stark realism and plenty of dramatic moments is the key note of "Angels with Dirty Faces," which is definitely a must film.

Preceding it is a colour cartoon, introducing favourites from the field of booklore and movie-land, introduced by our old friend Alexander Woolcott. E. G. A.
