SIR ROGER KEYES ON TIENTSIN EVENTS

Japan's Challenge

"Events at Tientsin, with the support given to the Japanese by. Germany and Italy, really amount to a declaration of war against the British Empire, and it is a challenge which must be met," declared Ad- miral of the Fleet Sir Roger Keyes, M.P.

He was addressing a parade of 3,000 A.R.P. volunteers at Hornsey.

He said he was convinced that if we were resolute and firm, and showed the whole world that Great Britain

was ready to enter the struggle, making full use of her wealth, her industry and man-power, we could win without

the clash of arms.

was the same. Therefore, there was a period of optimism until the next act of fla- grant aggression was plished fact.

OBJECTORS' LAST CHANCE

Twenty-year-old conscientious ob- jectors who wished to go before a local tribunal had to send in appli- cation forms before their local Ministry of Labour offices closed.

When the first baten of militiamen were asked to register at the beginning of the month, over 4,000 young men registered as conscien- tious objectors. Each one was given a form to fill up, and was told that he must return it to his local La- bour Exchange within fourteen days.

Unless conscientious objectors re- turn these forms they

may find themselves automatically entered on the military training register.

"ON

EVE OF BOOM"

"If we can get confidence into this world we are on the verge of one of the biggest expansions of international trade the world has ever seen," said Lord Riverdale, the industrialist. He was speaking at a luncheon given by the British Standards Institution at, the Dor- chester.

Mr. R. S. Hudson, Secretary to the Department of Overseas Trade, said there was no doubt that stand- ardisation helped to reduce costs, fostered co-operation between manu- facturer and consumer, and helped in the problem of securing the avail- ability of stocks and spare parts.

"We covered about 2,000 miles," said Mr. Owen: "It was because of reports which appeared in New Zea; land papers that Mrs. Jolly, my present fare, got into touch with me."

The taxi used for the previous trip was in service again..
