"School To Be Kept In Until Lesson Is Learned”

Washington, To-day,

President Roosevelt and the Secretary of State, Mr. Cordell Hull, yesterday conferred with mem- bers of Congress at the White House regard- ing the neutrality legislation.

It is authoritatively stated that no decision was reached, but Senator Barkley, the New Deal leader, told reporters he believed Congress would not deliberately adjourn in the face of the "overwhelming duty" to be performed. This is taken to indicate that President Roosevelt

NEW SLANT ON SITUATION

Washington, To-day.

The possibility emerged yester- day that despite previous denials, Senator Key Pittman's "Japanese ́embargo" resolution might prove the lever by which reconsideration of the neutrality legislation could be secured..

Senator Gillette, whose vote last week shelved the neutrality issue in the Senate foreign relations com- mittee, yesterday stated that he favours an embargo on war mater- lals to Japan.

"KEEPING SCHOOL IN”'

Senator Gillette's agreement with Senator Pittman on this issue has roused hopes that he might also change his mind on the neutrality issue.

At yesterday morning's confer ence with Congressional lenders it isunderstood that althoughỉ Presi- “dent Roosevelt was informed of the prossing desire to adjourn it was decided to keep; school in at least until the neutrality lesson is lear
