The "China Mail" understands from authoritative sources that, at the outset, the only British sub- jects who will be immediately called upon under the provisions of the Compulsory Service Bill are those liable to be posted to the combatant group, i.e. those between the ages of 18 and 41. While exact figures are not available, it is under- stood that this means that soon after the pass- age of the Ordinance, published in to-day's "Gazette," somewhat less than 1,800 individuals are liable to be called upon to submit them-- selves for medical examination.
