UPROOTING OF GERMANS IN ITALIAN TYROL

Berlin, To-day.

A "futile attempt to drive a wedge between Germany and Italy," is how the "Zwoelf Uhr Blatt" describes an article in "Le Temps" dealing with repatriation of Germans from South Tyrol.

This action is taking place with the full approval of both Govern- ments, it is declared, and is in keeping with the declaration of the German Chancellor during his Rome visit in 1938 that the vital space of the two countries must be clearly defined.

The surmise of "Le Temps" that Italy is anxious to get rid of the Germans so that the minority in that country will not afford Hitler an excuse for a later expansion is characterised as "poisoning of the vilest type."

The trade has promised to operate in making the programme as effective as possible.

A flat subsidy rate is now virtu- ally certain, with the possibility that will not be confined to 1939 crop only. However, no official in- dication is given of details. Reuter.
