THRILLING TUSSLES IN FINAL ROUND
PLAYING a better brand of aggressive tennis, Hong Kong Cricket
Club yesterday succeeded in holding their cricketing rivals from Kowloon Cricket Club to a draw in their vital "B" Division League Tennis match at Cox's Road yesterday.
This reverse, whilst being a severe setback to the home team, does not definitely place them out of the running. Provided South China win all their remaining fixtures-and they still have a stiff obstacle in the much-improved Recreio team to surmount-they will meet K.C.C. in the final fix- ture of the season. A victory for the latter would neces- sitate a play-off for the shield.
H.K.C.C. started very badly yesterday and after the first round it appeared quite possible that they would be beaten badly. Only measure of success scored by them was the set shared by T. C. Monaghan and T. J. Gould with F. Grose and A. V. White.

Cricket Club recovered well in the H.K.C.C. second round, however, and won two K.I.T.C. sets to make the score in K.C.C.'s fav-| C.C.C. our 3-22.
There were some thrilling moments in the final round. Monaghan and Gould beat Anderson and Mackay in quick time to make the score 8-all. On the other two courts, White and Grose were always on top of Ferguson and Story, while Gittins and Soltau had established a lead of 5-3 against Deane and Jowitt.

LEONARD AND CHOA WIN THREE SETS
What was thought would be a stern struggle turned out to be a one sided affair when South China beat Craigengower in the "B" divi- sion of the Lawn Tennis League by 6 sets to 8.
:
The Valley team were without R. Choa, who is on business in Indo- China, G. Lai and W. Howard with the result that two new players, in A. Chen and H. King, were brought into the team but they offered little opposition to the Chinese,
G. Choa and J. W. Leonard were the only C.C.C. pair to win any sets and their games were the only ones worth watching during the afternoon.

For the home team, White and Grose were the most successful pair but were not quite as convincing as they have been, Grose, who is well equipped to; do so, showed very little desire to forc. the pace but White was always look ing for the "kill" and hit anything overhead very hard.
This pair were leading 5-8 in thei first set, against Monaghan and Gould, but were pulled back eventually to tie. At this stage both were adopting tac tics which were far too negative, Grose patting his drives and White.sending over numbers of very short lobs which Monaghan tucked away with relish.
GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT
.. Anderson and Mackay, who won 241⁄2 sets against C.R.C., were a great dis- appointment and were never able to Bettle down either individually or as a combination while Gittins and Soltau showed some improvement over their recent displays and did very well to beat Ferguson and Story, but their failure to clinch their final set after holding a winning lead was a great disappointment.
