PARACHUTISTS JUMP 27,000 FEET

The Moscow radio announces that seven Soviet Army parachutists have jumped from a height of more than 27,000ft.

Doctors rushed to their help when they reached the ground, but found them “in good condition."

These seven parachutists seem to belong to a group of 27 men who jumped from 17,000ft the previous day without oxygen. Whether ox ygen was used on the second occa sion is not mentioned.

Recently, as an experiment, Det.- Supt. Percy Worth, one of Scotland Yard's Big Five, gave a lecture on. the Cheltenham torso crime to 300 members of "E" Division Special Constabulary and Police War Re- gerve..

*Supt. Worth was a Chief Inspec- tor when he was sent to Cheltenham. to investigate the mystery of a man's ・ unclothed torso. found on February 3, 1938, in the River Severn, near Haw Bridge.

The body was never identified, an open verdiet was returned at the inquest, and the mystery of how the torso. came to be in the river was never solved:

Supt. Worth, describing his ex- periences, used a detective inspec tor 28 2: model to indicate the various bruises found on the body. Photographs - taken by Scotland Yard photographers and illustrat ing every aspect of the crime were. shown to the special constables.
