The case was a sequel to the frustrated attempt to escape en masse, planned by the inmates, and exclusively reported in the "China Mail" yesterday.
One of the internees, 31-year- old Ying Ting-kai, was charged. with attempting to escape and with disorderly conduct.
An Indian Guard, No. B799, re- lated how at about 8.45 p.m. on Monday, he saw accused drag a log and throw it over the barbed-wire Accused was apprehended. fencing. while throwing another log across. the barbed-wire.
Accused struggled with the guard. and attempted to free himself, but was eventually overpowered on the farrival of a Chinese detective.
Accused this morning denied the charges, stating that he was drag- ging the log from the barbed-wire- fence to use as firewood to heat
in- water for a bath.
The magistrate decided to spect the scene, and, accompanied by Inspector Rogers, of the Kow
to loon Police Station, proceeded the Camp.
