Foochow, one of the three remaining ports of any size in Chinese hands, is now being subjected to a major Japanese attack, the "China Mail" learns from authoritative sources in Hong Kongre

Shanghai, To-day.

Copies of Hankow newspapers received in Shanghai show that a bitter attack on Britain has been raging for several days past.

The newspapers, Chinese-owned but Japanese-financed, are more scurrilous in their contents than puppet journals in other parts of China-Our Own Correspondent.

WRECKED NEAR NEW GUINEA

A Japanese landing was effected near the famous

Pagoda Anchorage, at the mouth of the Min JAP. STEAMER River, before daybreak to-day following a heavy barrage from warships. Wenchow, the most southerly port in Chekiang Pro- vince, and an important supply route for the Chinese armies, is also reported to be the ob- jective of another landing which was carried out in its vicinity early this morning.

AGREEMENT WITH TOKYO
