ANGLO-TURKISH SECRET PACT RUMOURS

LONDON, YESTERDAY.

A RUMOUR HAS BEEN CIR- CULATED IN SYRIA BY A FOR- EIGN NEWS AGENCY TO THE EFFECT THAT A SECRET AGREEMENT WAS SIGNED ON MAY 17 BETWEEN GREAT BRI- TAIN AND TURKEY.

Under the treaty, it was alleged, Great Britain promised support for certain territorial claims in Syria in return for Turkey's in- dertaking to respect the integrity of existing arrangements in Iraq and elsewhere.

Enquiries in London show that there is no foundation whatever for the rumour. No such agree- ment has been contemplated or concluded.

The rumour was plainly intend- ed to disturb existing friendly re- lations between Great Britain, France and Turkey. British Wireless.
