SOMETHING rather off the beaten

track of airmail postage is given us by Liechtenstein in a new seven value airpost series. No plane nor the suggestion of one appears these stamps. Instead, each bears a view of birds in flight. Each stamp provides a very different treatment of the theme, and individually or col- lectively the 'set is a most attractive philatelic asset.
Values and colours of the stamps are: 10-rappen violet, 15r orange, 20r dark red, 30r dark blue, 50r bright green, 1-franc rose-red and 2Fr lilac.

THE Central American Republic of
San Salvador has released three airmail stamps in honour of the Golden Gate Exposition in San Fran-. cisco. The design, common to all de- nominations, is a picture of Golden Gate Bridge with a plane above it. The upper corners are occupied by the seals of Salvador and California and inscriptions Indicative of the stamp's purpose appear in Spanish and English.

not see the issue of a new French stamp. This week's contribution pic- tures the new building for the Min- istry of Posts, Telegraphs and Tele- phones. It has a value of 90-cen- times plus 35-centimes, with the sur- tax to aid the orphans of employees in these government departments. The stamp bears the inscription across the top "Pour Les Orphelins Des P.T.T." while below the picture of the building is the line "1939- Ministere Des P.T.T."
FRENCH COLONIES HONOUR EXPLORER
HE French colonies in Africa have
THE
joined in paying tribute to Rene Auguste Caille, famous explorer, whose greatest exploit was a most perilous journey to Timbuktu. He was the first white man to reach this spot and return to reiate his travels. Caille was only thirty-nine when he died of an ailment contracted during his African travels.
Each of the eight colonies has is- sued a similar set, three values all in the same design. The stamp bears a portrait of Caille superimposed up- on a map of Africa. Dotted lines mark the route of the explorer's most noteworthy journey. Values and co- lours of the stamps are: 90-centimes orange-brown, 2-francs violet and 2.25fr. blue. The Colonies issuing these sets are: Dahomey, French Guinea, French Sudan, Ivory Coast, Mauritania, Niger Territory," Senegal and Togo.
ISSUED FROM ICELAND
SEVERAL items have been released
by Iceland as part of the new re- gular postage series. The 1-aur aqua- marine and 5a brown picture codfish while herring is the fish honoured on the 3a gray-purple and 7a gray- green values. The national flag ap- pears on the 10a ultramarine stamp and a Viking is portrayed on the 2k gray.
Added to the current postage series of Iceland is a 40 aur stamp in brown picturing a geyser,
