CHINESE BANKS DECLARE MORATORIUM

SHANGHAI, TO-DAY.

IT IS LEARNED THAT THE CHINESE BANKS THIS MORN- ING WILL DECLARE A THREE-DAY MORATORIUM SUSPENDING ALL TRAN- SACTIONS.

It is learned that the reason for the step is to endeavour to force foreign banks to sell for- eign currency more freely, and thus raise the exchange value of the Chinese dollar. Reuter.
