ACCEPT PRINCIPLE OF JAP. PERMITS FOR SHIPPING

The Government do not recognise the necessity for ships sailing for inland water ports from Shanghai to carry Japanese military permits, the Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Mr. R.A. Butler, informed the House of Commons yesterday in the course of a written reply to Sir J. S. Wardlaw-Milne (Conservative).

Butler stated that notification had been re- ceived at the instance of the so-called “reform- ed Government" at Nanking that owners of vessels wishing to clear for nine specified places after June 1 must first obtain a certifi- cate from the competent Japanese authorities.
