„HORLICKS,

"Blockade Has No Terrors"

Frankfurt-on-Main,

To-day. "THE blockade as an economic weapon in war-time has lost its ter- rors as far as Germany is concerned," declared Herr Walter Funk, the Reichs Minister for Eco- nomics, in a speech deli- vered here before the Congress of Reich Handicrafts Organisa- tion.

The pursuit of the Four-Year- Plan with all the concentration of forces that it entailed did not mean, he insisted, that Germany intended to abandon its share in world trade.

Self-imposed restrictions of an economic kind would in the long run tend to lessen the political influence exerted by Germany throughout the world. For this reason, everything possible would be done to promote the export trade.

AN ADMISSION

The state of the world market at the moment and the efforts made to destroy Germany's long- standing commercial relations did not favour recovery of Ger- man export trade.

It was undoubtedly true, he added, that Germany would not find it easy to surmount obsta- cles placed in the way of its ex- port trade in the shape of cur- rency manipulations and trade barriers of various kinds, but there was no disputing the fact that many countries saw in. Ger- many a valuable and steadfast commercial partner and... even those countries which were set on harming Germany could only suffer as a result of ignoring.the enormous and growing power of a nation composed of 80,000,000 human beings.-Trans-Ocean.
