Of Parliament

Ottawa, To-day.

The King and Queen arrived here from Quebec

yesterday.

A great cheer arose from thousands of persons in the streets when it was announced that the Royal train, after halting most of the night in the open country, had left Caledonia Springs for the capital.

Chilly rain did not damp the spirits of the populace, and hundreds of cars poured into the city, while 17 special trains brought further crowds.

The crowd had stood two hours in pouring rain, newspapers slung round their shoulders, and `com- mented freely on the Queen's smil ing charm.

One Canadian exclaimed collo- quially: "Oh boy, the Queen is going to tear things right open."

The sun happily emerged as such comments were heard.

COLOURFUL ROUTE

The route to Government House, where a State Dinner was held in the evening, followed by a recep- tion, resembled a brightly colour- ed sea as the crowd, including thousands of young people lining it, waved Union Jacks,

The Queen entered the capital wearing a lilac coloured ensemble, and a grey hat with ostrich fea- thers. The King wore the full dress uniform of a Field Marshal, with plumed hat.

In the afternoon Their Majesties proceeded to Parliament buildings, and in the evening received the press at Government House.

At Government House the King in person received the credentials of Mr. Daniel Roper, the new United States Minister to Canada. -Reuter.

KING'S ADDRESS At the Parliament buildings King addressed both Houses in the Senate during a ceremony

giving Royal Assent to certain Bills.

His Majesty said: "No ceremony could more completely symbolise the free, and equal association of na- tions in our Commonwealth.

"As my father said on the occa- sion of his Silver Jubilee, the unity of the British Empire is no longer expressed by the supremacy of the time-honoured Parliament at West- minster.

"It finds expression to-day in the free association of nations enjoying common principles of government and a common attachment to the and ideals of peace and freedom, bound together in common allegi- ance to the Crown."
