MARTINEAU'S XI'S FINE
WIN AT GEZIRA
Gezira (Egypt), April 18.-A. P. Singleton, of Worcestershire, took ten wickets for 61 runs in the three-day match between H. M. Martineau's XI and the United Services, which ended here to-day, the second day.
Martineau's XI, who scored 380 runs, beat the United Services (157 and 172) by an innings and 51 runs. Singleton captured six wickets for 21 in the first innings, and four for 40 in the second. He was also in form with the bat, hit- ting a fine 61 not out. On Saturday R. de W. K. Winlaw (Surrey) had scor- ed 100, while to-day T. N. Pearce, of Essex, completed 50.
The most successful Service bowler was Lieut. C. A. Holliman, who took four for 78 in their innings. Major A. S. Yieldman played well in scoring 86. but received no support from his col- leagues. Press Association.

London, To-day. Home first-class cricket matches which con- cluded yesterday were full of incident and some ex- cellent performances were returned.
A most thrilling match was that at Lord's where Middlesex beat Essex with only three minutes to spare.
Essex batted first and made 403, to which O'Connor and "Sonny" Avery, the latter the Islington Cor- inthian footballdr who visited Hong Kong and played at Kowloon Cric- ket Club recently, both contributed centuries.
