EASY VICTORY FOR H.G. CHURCHER

The seven miles walking cham- pionship and the ten miles running championship of the Amateur Ath- letic Association were held at the White City yesterday afternoon.
Both of last year's winners were absent and, as had been expected, H. G. Churcher, of Belgrave Harriers, who has put up many fine perform ances this season, gained a fairly easy victory in the walk. There was a strong breeze blowing throughout the racing.

Hedley Verity, the Yorkshire and England cricketer, will go to South Africa as a coach next winter. During his recent visit with the M.C.C. team he received an offer to coach at King Edward's School, Johannesburg. Now the Yorkshire County Committee gave him permission to accept the en- gagement.

These positions were maintained at the half-distance, for which Chapelle's time was 25 min, 25 sec, Palmer, who had after two miles been less fident than usual, retired at 54 miles, Weatherill moved well up and dis- placed McIntyre for second position. At nine miles McIntyre had dropped- to fourth place, Carter being third. The Belgian at this point was some 200 yards in the lead, and main- taining his strong running finished with this margin to spare in 51, min. 56 sec, from Weatherill, while Mc- Intyre, with a strong finishing 100 yards dash, took third place by ten yards from Carter.
