Rumjahns' Record Not Safe Tsuis Retain Doubles Title In Convincing Style

HO AND LEE PUT UP AMAZINGLY PLUCKY DISPLAY

For the second year in succession and the third time in four years Tsui Wai-pui and Tsui Yun-pui are Colony grass court doubles champions.

Yesterday before a large gallery at H.K.C.C. they beat Ho Ka- lau and Lee Yue-wing, another C.R.C. combination, 6-3, 7-5, 6-8, 6-2 after a match which was more in the nature of an exhibition than an Open Championship Final.

p

The Rumjahn cousins won the title 11 years in a row well, there seems nothing to stop the Tsuis going very close to this seemingly impossible record. Yesterday they were pitted against probably the only pair in the Colony who could hope to extend them a pair who knew the value of the lob and who could execute this difficult shot with any degree of accuracy. No local pair would extend the Tsuis in a match confined to powerful driving duels, and Ho and Lee mixed their shots very cleverly, only to be swept off the court by deadly overhead work.

TSUI WAI-PUI AND TSUI YAN-PUI—retained their doubles

title yesterday.

Deadly Overhead Work TO PARTICIPATE IN Upsets Lobbing Tactics

The scores give little indication of the comparative strengths as, with all due respect to the amazingly plucky performance of Ho and Lee, the Tsuis could have won comfortably in straight

sets had they so desired. Carelessness

Lee has made amazing strides since

last season, when an accident kept him

from playing for C.R.C. "B" in the League for several weeks. He has the "big match" temperament, and more is going to be heard of him in the future net, His ground shots are well executed shot though more pace could be imparted to Tsui advantage. His slow cross court shot

cost them many important points and, incidentally, three love games. They had almost every shot at their com- mand, Tsui Wai-pui being particularly impressive overhead and at the while his attacking half volley was again greatly in evidence.
